UX & Service Designer
I'm Matty Craze, a UX and Service Designer with over a decade of experience working on complex digital products.
Based in Albury-Wodonga, Australia. Available remotely worldwide.
TLDR
I work with teams and organisations that need serious design capability without a full-time hire.
My teams span the US and India, so operating across time zones, moving fast, and communicating clearly without being in the same room is business as usual.
Expertise
From discovery through to delivery, user needs stay central at every stage, balanced against business goals, so solutions work for users and the organisations building them.
I help teams look beyond the surface to the operational and backend processes underneath, because how a service runs internally shapes what users experience.
High-fidelity, interactive prototypes built in code. What you test is close to what gets built, faster feedback, cleaner handover.
End-to-end websites, from strategy and UX through to a live production-ready site.
How I use AI
Process
Discovery and research anchor everything I do and I'm constantly refining how I work, whether that means integrating AI or adapting to the realities of a project like timeframes and team capacity.
Work
A selection of projects across product design, service design, and complex UX challenges.
Givee, a gifting and eCommerce platform by PCNA (US)
Embedded UX designer in a small product team building Givee, a platform that lets companies create branded storefronts for employee gifting, events, and customer rewards. The product connects to PCNA's print-on-demand infrastructure, so recipients can personalise their gift from a curated range.
The design surface is complex: a storefront builder for business administrators, a gift selection experience for recipients, and management tools for ongoing operations. The product has doubled in size two years running.
Global-e
A new internal tool to help the compliance team review merchant catalogues and identify which products need to be restricted for sale in specific countries. Replaced a manual, error-prone process with a structured, efficient workflow.
Global-e
Redesign of the merchant onboarding process to improve experience and handle dynamic variables, including the merchant's location, preferred eCommerce platform, and product range. Reduced friction at a critical moment in the merchant journey.
Flow.io (acquired by Global-e)
A new international checkout experience for merchants expanding into cross-border eCommerce. Designed to handle the complexity of currency, tax, and compliance variation across markets while keeping the end-user experience simple.
CurrencyFair
Implementation of custom permission levels for business account holders, including a two-person approval requirement for high-value transactions. Balanced security requirements with usability for teams managing shared accounts.
Services
Part-time or full-time contract work, embedded in your team. Currently contracted to a US-based product company and open to taking on additional capacity.
A defined scope, a clear outcome. Research and discovery, a UX audit, a redesign, a new feature. Whatever the project needs, from start to finish.
Strategy, direction, and design thinking without the full engagement. Useful when your team needs an experienced outside perspective, a second opinion, or help framing a problem before you solve it.
Primarily focused on contract and project work, but open to the right permanent opportunity. Particularly interested in remote-first organisations or companies with a presence in regional NSW/VIC.
Availability & Location
I'm based in Albury-Wodonga on the NSW/VIC border. I work remotely for teams anywhere in the world. My current contract is with a company in the US, so working across time zones is business as usual.
For clients who want occasional in-person collaboration, I'm able to travel to Melbourne and Sydney.
If you're a business or organisation in the Albury-Wodonga region looking for a local designer, I'd love to hear from you.
About
Over a decade in UX and service design. Several years in Ireland working on FinTech at CurrencyFair and eCommerce at Flow.io and Global-e, before coming home to Australia in 2024.
I care about understanding the problem before designing the solution. Research, both qualitative and quantitative, anchors everything I do. What's changed is how fast I can get from insight to something testable, and that changes everything about how quickly a team can learn and move.
I work best with teams that take design seriously, move with purpose, and want someone who'll push back when something doesn't make sense for the user.
When I'm not designing I'm usually building something with Claude Code or planning the next fishing trip.
Contact
Whether you're looking for a contractor, a consultant, or someone to take a project from discovery to delivery, I'd love to hear from you.
The best way to get in touch is by email. I'll usually get back to you within a day.
